Today definitely didn’t go as planned.

I got my period this morning. For those of you who don’t care about how this relates to my training, you might want to skip the next paragraph. But, if you’re a woman or if you coach women, then it might be useful to you.

For the last 6-8 months, my period has been irregular. The fact is, I am going to be 38 in a month. I hate to admit that, especially when the vast majority of my current athletes are 20-22 years old, haha. But, it’s true, and I am sure that it has a lot to do with this shitty reality. The last two cycles have been really long – 6 weeks and then even more than 6 weeks – and it’s fucking with how I feel in general. So, my period came this morning after more than 6 weeks. I felt terrible. I am still fasting and eating only once a day, and we tried to train at 2:00 pm. I got through 3.5 squat sets before I almost passed out.

I couldn’t regroup. I was lightheaded and sweaty and I didn’t even have it in me to do more bodybuilding. I called it quits, picked up the kids, picked up food, and went home.

We ate, and then Nick and I went to lay down for a few minutes while the kids were playing. He got up, and I ended up falling asleep for about 2 hours. I gave up on the idea of trying to train again.

So, what I did do was…

Squat;
5 x 70 kg
5 x 80 kg
5 x 90 kg
1 x 100 kg – This was where I got lightheaded, so I racked the bar and tried again
2 x 100 kg – No. By this time, I knew I couldn’t squat safely

I was doing front raises and dumbbell shoulder presses in between squat sets.

I am going to take more advil and go to bed early tonight.
